ICAN Ibadan & District Society to Inaugurate Alhaji Babatunde Kilani, FCA, as 24th Chairman

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Ibadan and District Society, is set to hold the investiture ceremony of its 24th Chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Kilani, FCA. The event will take place on the 3rd of July, 2024, at Omolayole Hall, International Conference Center, University of Ibadan, commencing at 11:00 am. The ceremony will also include the inauguration of the 2024/2025 set of executives.

The outgoing Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Babajide Temitope, will hand over the mantle of leadership to Alhaji Kilani, marking a significant transition in the society’s leadership.

Babatunde Kilani was born over five decades ago into the Kilani family of Labuta Compound, Totoro, Abeokuta, through Late Pa. Zakariyya Kilani and Thuweibat Kilani, both of blessed memory. Due to his father’s job, the family settled in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. He began his primary education at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso, and continued at the defunct Islamiyya Primary School, Bauchi Road, Jos, Plateau State. He later took his Common Entrance Examination at Ebenezer Baptist Day School, Okelerin, Ogbomoso. Kilani proceeded to Adeniran Memorial Grammar School, Ogbomoso, where he passed all his WAEC papers in flying colors in 1989. Being from a conscious Muslim family, he acquired knowledge of Arabic and Islamic education alongside Western education.

Kilani sought admission to the prestigious University of Ibadan but was admitted into Plateau School of Accountancy and Management Studies (PSALMS), Jos, in 1992. He obtained an Ordinary Diploma in Accounting in 1994 with Upper Credit Division. As a young school leaver, he began his career with Temitope Biscuits and Confectioneries Company Limited in 1995, Shagamu, as an Account Clerk, later rising to the position of Cost Analyst. He pursued a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, graduating in 2001 with Upper Credit Division.

In 2008, Kilani enrolled for the Postgraduate Master’s program at Ladoke Akintola University, obtaining a Master of Business Administration (Financial Management Option) in 2010. He further enhanced his academic qualifications by obtaining a Degree in Accounting with Second Class Upper Division in 2014 from the same university. He then enrolled for another Postgraduate Degree Program in Accounting at the University of Ibadan in 2019, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Accounting with PhD grade in 2023. Currently, he is a PhD student of Accounting at Lead City University, Ibadan.

While working with Temitope Biscuit Company, Kilani was inspired by the auditors from Lafenwa Osiberu & Co. Chartered Accountants, who encouraged him to obtain the ICAN (ATS) form in 1997. He qualified as an Associate Accounting Technician (AAT) in 1998, marking the beginning of his professional journey. Kilani passed the ICAN professional examinations in May 2005 and was inducted as an Associate member in November of the same year. He became a fellow of the Institute in April 2017. Kilani also holds memberships in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

Kilani has served ICAN at various levels. He has been an Assessor/ Examiner with ICAN since 2014. He has been a member of the Finance Committee, Membership Affairs Committee, and held roles such as Assistant General Secretary, General Secretary, Deputy Vice Chairman, and Chairman of the Examination Committee. He also served on the ICAN Small and Medium Practice Committee and was elected Vice Chairman of ICAN Ibadan and District Society in 2023. He played a key role as the Conference Secretary for the recent Western Zonal Accountants Conference in Ibadan.

The investiture ceremony promises to be a significant event, celebrating the achievements and future aspirations of the ICAN Ibadan and District Society under the capable leadership of Alhaji Babatunde Kilani, FCA.
