A delegation from the National Industrial Court, comprising Barr. Mrs. Bolanle Ajibaye, Deputy Chief Registrar, and Hon. Justice O.A Ogunbowale, Presiding Justice, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi.

The Speaker acknowledged the visitors’ kind remarks and reiterated the state’s commitment to divine guidance, citing the declaration of May 29th as Delta State Praise Day.

The Speaker extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly, assuring them of the legislature’s support for the judiciary and encouraging them to discharge their duties with utmost dedication.

The delegation expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s warm reception and acknowledged the legislature’s accomplishments, particularly the successful completion of their first anniversary.

Mrs. Bolanle explained that the purpose of their visit was to familiarize themselves with the Speaker and other key members of the House, having recently assumed office in the state.

Earlier in the day, Hon. Dafe Chukwudi, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, presented the report on the Delta State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Hon. Dafe highlighted the bill’s impact on multiple stakeholders and the committee’s conduct of a public hearing on June 10th, 2024, which garnered input from various MDAs and professional bodies. The committee recommends amendments to the bill, which was received by the House for further consideration.

Subsequently, the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion for the second reading of the Delta State Human Trafficking (Prohibition) Bill, 2024, which was seconded by Hon. Bridget Anyanfulu.

Hon. Nwaobi explained that the bill aims to criminalize human trafficking, establish state jurisdiction, and collaborate with neighboring states to combat the crime. He emphasized the need for a task force to enforce the bill.

Honorable members of the House, including Hon. Perkins Umukoro, Hon. Okoh Festus, and others, spoke in support of the bill, acknowledging its comprehensiveness and alignment with the government’s primary objectives. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs/Girl Child Entrepreneur, and Humanitarian Service for further consideration.”
