Boxing at the Games has made a massive impact on the sport, with many medal winners going on to become some of the greatest ever seen.

Anthony Joshua is the best example for Team GB as AJ has gone from Olympic glory in 2012 to becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion. 

Icon Muhammad Ali also won gold in 1960 before making his name as one of the greatest of all time in the sport.

Boxing at Paris 2024: Date and schedule

Boxing at the Paris Olympics will get started on Saturday, July 27. 

There will then be fights scheduled for every day until the event comes to a close on Saturday, August 10. 

Fights will be held at the iconic tennis stadium Roland-Garros and Arena Paris Nord. 

In total, there will be 13 finals in the event, meaning 13 gold medals will be awarded. 

The finals will take place from Tuesday, August 6 until the last day of the event on August 10.

Boxing at Paris 2024: Rules and format 

There will be fights in eight different weight classes at the Olympics. 

Both men and women will compete at flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight while there is only a bantamweight event for women. 

For the men, they will also have fights at heavyweight and super heavyweight. 

Only amateur boxers are allowed to compete, with this occasion usually a huge springboard for many as they look to begin a professional career. 

Each bout will be fought over three rounds of three minutes in the men’s event and four rounds of two minutes in the women’s event. 

Scoring will be the same as usual, with judges presiding over each round and adding up their totals to determine the winner at the end of the fight.

As mentioned, there are no big, already-established names involved in this event, unlike other sports at the Olympics. 

The boxing event is a huge chance for amateur fighters to make their name. 

And the stars will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of Joshua, Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield and more.
