Governing council: Abia ex-deputy gov, SSG, Apugo others hail Tinubu over Ohuabunwa, Nwachukwu, Ikoh’s appointments
Immediate -past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointing Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
He also thanked the President over the appointment of “another illustrious son of Abia North” and former Military Administrator of Old Imo State, Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (retd.), as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).
The Deputy Governor equally congratulated former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Chief Henry Ikoh over his appointment as the Chairman, Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Nekede.
Oko Chukwu who described their appointments as “square pegs in square holes”, expressed confidence that the trio will perform creditably in their new assignments considering their antecedents “both in the private and public sectors”.
He congratulated them on their new appointments and wished them a successful tenure.
” I have no doubt that they will all do well considering their track records; and my prayer is for God to shower them with the wisdom and strength needed to transform the institutions placed under their watch”, he said.
Similarly, former Secretary to State Government, SSG Abia State, Dr Eme Okoro, said Sen. Ohuabunwa, Gen. Nwachukwu’s and Chief Ikoh’s appointments were “meritorious.”
He described them as illustrious sons of Abia who had distinguished themselves in different fields of endeavour, expressing confidence that “their rich wealth of experience will be brought to bear in their new assignments”.
Reacting also, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo who represented Abia Central state constituency in the 7th Abia House of Assembly, thanked President Tinubu over the choice of Sen. Ohuabunwa as UNIPORT Governing Council Chairman.
He said that Senator Ohuabunwa had “shown capacity and competence both in private and public sectors.”
Hon. Apugo also congratulated the former Leader, ECOWAS Parliament, and said he would deploy his wealth of experience and contacts in transforming UNIPORT into an enviable citadel of learning.
Similarly, former Special Adviser to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, Hon. Isaac Nkole, described Ohuabunwa’s appointment as ” very befitting”, considering his “exposures and contacts”.
He said that “UNIPORT is in for its glory days under Senator Ohuabunwa’s Midas touch”.
Meanwhile, Grassroots Sports Federation of Nigeria, GRASOF, has congratulated Senator Mao Ohuabunwa over his successful inauguration as UNIPORT Pro-Chancellor.
GRASOF President, Hon. John Bassey Ekpeyong, in a statement, said the appointment of “Senator Ohuabunwa who is the Patron of GRASOF is a well-deserved honour.”
The statement which noted that “Senator Ohuabunwa has touched lives of many young sportsmen and women, said “he also contributed immensely to sports development”.
“Sen Ohuabunwa as Pro- Chancellor, will continue in his good works to reposition UNIPORT both in academics and sports development”, the statement added.
Recall that Senator Ohuabunwa, Gen. Nwachukwu, and Chief Ikoh along other Pro-Chancellors and members of the newly-constituted Governing Councils of Federal tertiary institutions in the country, were inaugurated Thursday in Abuja.
