The immediate past governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, Monday, advised members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritise collective interests over personal ambitions, urging them not to leave anyone behind.

Speaking during the PDP expanded caucus meeting in Makurdi, Ortom also underscored the importance of unity within the party and invoked the adage “divided we fall, united we stand,” emphasising that the party’s strength lied in its cohesion.

Ortom’s call for unity came in the wake of internal conflicts within the party as he refrained from naming specific individuals, he stressed that the emergence of party leaders during the forthcoming PDP congresses should be a democratic decision made collectively.

He said the party had initiated internal conflict resolution mechanisms to address disputes in the party.

Senator representing Benue South senatorial district Abba Moro, also re-echoed Ortom’s sentiments and emphasised that despite being in opposition, unity remained crucial.

Moro cautioned against individual ambitions that could fracture the party’s unity as the party heads towards congresses. 

He urged members to choose the best candidates who could lead effectively and deliver victory for the party during elections.

He accused Governor Hycinth Alia of running a one-man show government, with little collaboration.

Former Governor Senator Gabriel Suswam, addressed the rumours circulating within the party and clarified that they were driven by selfish interests, noting that the party’s leadership had met to resolve them.

Suswam also cautioned those using his aspirations for national chairmanship of the party to cause conflict in the party to stop, adding that he would never welcome those who were bent on creating friction among the PDP leaders in the state.
