24-year-old man found unresponsive after going under the water in Little Detroit Lake

The man was found unresponsive and not breathing by a citizen shortly after first responders arrived on scene. The incident is under investigation by the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

Citizens pulled an unresponsive 24-year-old man from Little Detroit Lake on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

DETROIT LAKES — A 24-year-old man was found unresponsive after going under the water in Little Detroit Lake on Saturday afternoon, July 6, according to a Becker County Sheriff’s Office press release.

At approximately 3:26 p.m., dispatch received a report that the man had been swimming from shore and had gone under the water in the area of Zorbaz, the 400 block of West Lake Drive.

When first responders arrived, citizens had already begun searching, and the man was located a couple of minutes later by a citizen. The man was unresponsive and not breathing, according to the press release.

He was transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s hospital in Detroit Lakes and then transported to an unspecified Fargo area hospital. His current condition is unknown.

The incident is under investigation by the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, and the name of the individual will be released when proper family notification occurs.

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office, Detroit Lakes Police Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resource Conservation Office, Becker County Dive Team and St. Mary’s EMS responded to the scene.
