Zepto CEO Aadit Palicha believed that his quick-commerce grocery delivery platform's sales can surpass those of offline retailer D-Mart in the next 18 to 24 months.

"DMart is a $30 billion company and they are only 4.5X our size in sales. If we continue to execute well, we will continue to grow 2-3X every year. And potentially surpass them in next 18-24 months which is an exceptionally well executed consumer company," said Palicha.

The Zepto co-founder said the country's grocery market is worth $650 billion in FY23 and is growing at 9 per cent CAGR, which will increase its worth to $8,850 billion by the end of FY29.

"Grocery is bigger than all the other categories that Amazon and Flipkart serve combined. If you look at electronics, apparel, furniture, you combine everything, and you double it, it's still not as large as grocery and household essentials," he said.

Palicha said the three-year-old startup will focus on the top 50 to 75 million household's top 40 cities, which amount to the bulk of grocery and daily essential purchases in the country.

"We have had a crazy journey in the past 3 years. We have gone from zero to ₹10,000 crore in less than 3 years. It is the fastest company in Internet India to do that. Flipkart did it in 4 years. We did it in 2.5 years," he added.

His latest comments come after Zepto received a Serie F funding worth $665 million at a $3.6 billion valuation. The company is preparing to turn profitable as it eyes an IPO in the next one year.
