The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, former Lagos State Labour Party governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and a host of other distinguished personalities are set to be celebrated at the GMYT Africa Humanitarian (GAH) Awards 2024. The 12th edition of this prestigious event will take place on Saturday, December 7, at Cube 65, Royal Box, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Joining the ranks of honorees are Dr. Chima Anyaso, Chairman and CEO of Cades Group; Prince Adedapo Oluwaseyi Adelegan, CEO of Celtron Nigeria Ltd; Dr. Surajudeen Basiru, a lawyer and politician; Prof. Lere Baale, CEO of Business School Netherlands International; ex-beauty queen Lady Sylvia Nduka, CEO of Seed Foundation; Rev. Esther Ajayi, also known as Iya Adura; and Mr. David Olurin, CEO of Cardinal Torch Company.

The awards, organised by the GMYT Group, aim to spotlight individuals and organisations making transformative impacts across Africa’s business and humanitarian landscapes.

This year’s event, themed “Against All Odds”, transcends mere recognition to focus on fostering sustainable change. Dr. Princess Kelechi Oghene, Group Managing Director of GMYT Group and convener of the GAH Awards, emphasized the event’s alignment with critical United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The spotlight will shine on SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

“These awardees are exceptional leaders who have defied challenges to transform Africa’s business landscape,” Dr. Oghene remarked. “Through their work, they foster economic prosperity, build resilient infrastructures, and drive collaborative solutions that align with our mission to empower future generations.”

Dr. Oghene shed light on the unique hurdles African businesses face, such as limited access to funding, inadequate structural support, and systemic barriers. “The GAH Awards is more than a celebration; it’s a platform for addressing these challenges head-on. We aim to equip leaders with tools, insights, and partnerships to create enterprises that endure and leave a positive legacy,” she noted.

The event will feature expert panel discussions on critical topics, including building resilient businesses, legacy and succession planning, and creating enabling environments for sustainable growth.

Key questions to be explored include how African businesses can adopt systems for long-term resilience, the role of government policies in fostering or hindering sustainability, and strategies for developing robust succession plans to empower future generations.

Dr. Oghene also called for a unified approach involving government, financial institutions, and community networks. “Through policy advocacy, accessible financial resources, mentorship, and community support, we can establish a framework for sustainable growth across the continent,” she stated.

As the GAH Awards 2024 approaches, it promises to celebrate achievement and be a rallying call for action. With honorees representing excellence in business, humanitarian efforts, and social impact, the event underscores the power of leadership and collaboration in building a brighter future for Africa.

For attendees and stakeholders, the night will offer a blend of recognition, inspiration, and actionable strategies for fostering growth and resilience in African enterprises.
