Why Nigerians won’t pay for new foreign coach for Super Eagles – Gara Gombe

thetalk.ng 2 days ago

Nigerians may be passionate about their football, but they will not pay for a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles because the NFF are not credible, according to former Gombe FA chairman Shuaibu Gara Gombe.

Sports Minister John Enoh has suggested that crowdfunding could be an option to pay for a new foreign coach.

“We have to resist this other form of tax to pay for a coach, it won’t work,” maintained Gara Gombe in an interview on Nigerian Info FM Abuja

“NFF should account for every kobo they have received in the last 10 years.

“The NFF have a credibility problem, there’s no accountability, no transparency.

“A Nigerian company can pay a good coach $150,000 a month, but a serious person or organisation will need credibility and good governance from the NFF to do so.”

Last month, the NFF announced they will appoint a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles following a difficult 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Super Eagles are second from bottom of Group C with three points after four rounds of matches.

Rwanda, South Africa and Benin lead the group with seven points apiece.
