Muller: 'Referee decision was strange. This often happens in Madrid'

Thomas Muller criticised referee Szymon Marciniak for his decisions in the Real Madrid v Bayern game.

Die Roten were chasing the equaliser and scored through Matthijs De Ligt very late on. But the goal was not allowed to stand as the referee had blown the whistle in the build-up, reacting to the linesman raising the flag.

The veteran midfielder said after the game: “The referee’s decision was strange. This happens often in Madrid, and it happened to me before with two Ronaldo offside goals. No one can explain this.”

Back in 2017, Los Blancos eliminated Bayern in the Champions League quarter-final. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in the second leg, with two of his goals coming from the offside position.

This year, it was Joselu who bagged a brace to send Madrid to the final.
