Tony Labruna, 65, said the closest he ever came to going on holiday was a trip to Weymouth - but can finally use the cash to live out his dreams of travelling abroad

A man who scooped a massive £800,000 lottery jackpot says he will buy his first ever passport as his first purchase.

Tony Labruna, 65, was over the moon by the news as he shared he "hasn't ever won anything in life". The retired bus mechanic from Bristol said the closest he ever came to going on holiday was a trip to the seaside town of Weymouth.

With his new "mind-blowing" fortune, Tony says he can finally live out his lifelong dream of travelling abroad. He said: “It’ll be my first time travelling so I want to see how it is and take it easy. If I go to Spain or France and see the different cultures for two weeks, I’ll be happy."

Having previously suffered a heart attack which left him with a number of health issues, Tony said he was "lucky to be alive" and didn't know "whether to cry, scream or jump up and down." He added: "I haven’t been used to a lot of money. I’ve been used to getting my wages and that’s just for living on," he added. "But this, it’s just life-changing."

All tickets for the People's Postcode Lottery were worth £400,000, but Tony won double after deciding to play two tickets. While he was the biggest winner, a number of his neighbours in BS3 5BA poscode also bagged huge cash prizes as part of a £3.2m win.

Tony's neighbour Celestina Joseph, 62, took home £400,000, and said she would like to spend the money on a new home to share with her younger sister Catherine, 60, and their nephew Jack, 27.

Jack sadly lost his mother Lorna two years after she tragically suffered an infection following a heart operation. It led to a "tough couple of years" for the family, Ms Joseph said. Catherine said: “We were the three musketeers. Then Jack came along and we were the four musketeers. She would have enjoyed all this.”

The trio are also planning dream trip to the Maldives, where they will fly business class, as a "once-in-a-lifetime experience".

A further 480 people in the winning area of BS3 5 received cheques worth anywhere from £2,973 to £11,892, depending on the number of tickets they played.
