Summary

  • This Star Wars theory connects Kelleran Beq to The Phantom Menace, explaining his familiarity with the Naboo.
  • Beq's potential presence at Qui-Gon's funeral could establish a long-standing relationship with Naboo.
  • The Sabered Hand's actions after rescuing Grogu remain unclear, leaving more questions for future Star Wars stories.

A clever Star Wars theory fixes a huge lingering question from The Mandalorian, while also retconning a fan-favorite character into the end of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Kelleran Beq first appeared in the online kids' game show Jedi Temple Challenge before making his triumphant debut in The Mandalorian season 3. The Jedi Master, played by Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best, saved Grogu from Order 66.

This theory, however, poses a potential earlier appearance of Beq, and also explains his getaway with Grogu on that fateful night. During their escape, Kelleran and Grogu link up with a group of soldiers from Naboo, in recognizable gear from The Phantom Menace. The soldiers fight the clone troopers chasing the two Jedi as they escape into hyperspace, though no connection between Beq and the Naboo is ever explained. What if Kelleran Beq was actually much more familiar with the Naboo than previously thought?

A Smart Retcon Adds Kelleran Beq Into The Phantom Menace

The Jedi Master Was Present For Qui-Gon's Funeral

A fake actor standing in for Mace Windu walks with other Jedi in The Phantom Menace

For years, a specific background actor standing in for Mace Windu in the ending sequence of The Phantom Menace has been a joke amongst viewers. Some even call him "fake Windu" because the actor chosen for the sequence doesn't really look much like Samuel L. Jackson's iconic Jedi Master at all. A post on X by BromTitus, however, has worked this classic background detail into an interesting headcanon.

The theory effectively retcons Best's character into the role. The background actor in the scene wears robes that look relatively similar to Kelleran Beq's, and the actor's face resembles Ahmed Best much more than it does Samuel L. Jackson. Overall, it would also make sense for more than just members of the Jedi Council to attend a funeral for renowned Master Qui-Gon Jinn. More than anything else, Beq being present on Naboo can explain his connection to the planet.

The Jedi Master Was Familiar With The Distant World

Kelleran Beq's familiarity with the people of Naboo has always been something that audiences have wondered about since The Mandalorian season 3 ended. How did he gain these contacts, and how were they already in place and ready to help him evacuate Coruscant during Order 66? It could simply be because of Ahmed Best's connections to the world as the actor behind Jar Jar, but this theory makes it something more.

A reply from ThatWeirdoAldo to the original post proposes that maybe Kelleran's presence on Naboo establishes how he came to have these connections. What if Beq's attending Qui-Gon's funeral was the beginning of a relationship with the planet that would last for years to come? Or what if the Jedi was already familiar with Naboo and was thus chosen to attend the funeral? Either way, this interesting theory could totally provide a connection between Kelleran Beq and the planet Naboo.
