New Delhi: After days of teasing fans, the official account of the Tokyo Ghoul anime announced that a huge exhibition for the Pierrot-produced manga series will be held in Japan later this year, with Tokyo up first in October, followed by Osaka in December. Ahead of the grand exhibition, let’s explore the popular manga series. The exhibition will be called ‘Tokyo Ghoul Exposition’. The announcement was made with an important visual featuring the anime’s protagonist Kaneki Ken, Touka Kirishima and Rize Kamishiro.

Tokyo Ghoul: First origin and adaptations

Tokyo Ghoul is a psychological dark fantasy series which was adapted from Sui Ishida’s manga series, which rolled out in the Weekly Young Jump magazine from September 2011 to 2014, with its chapters collected in 14 tankōbon volumes. A prequel titled Tokyo Ghoul [Jack], aired online on Jump Live in 2012 and a sequel Tokyo Ghoul:re was serialised in Weekly Jump from October 2014 to July 2018.

In 2014, Pierrot-produced 12-episode anime series adaptation was aired on Tokyo MX from July to September 2014. Although the original series is lauded by many for carrying forward the visual spectacle legacy, it’s follow-up sequels were a major letdown for the fans, who even refuse to acknowledge it.
