The Harry Potter series follows the titular wizard and his adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While the films and novels mainly follow Harry and his two best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, there are many other students at Hogwarts, many of whom play important roles in the story, such as Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood.
While only a handful of students are highlighted in the films, there are potentially hundreds of students populating Hogwarts Castle, many of whom are mentioned at varying degrees of importance, such as fellow Gryffindors, members of the Quidditch teams, members of Dumbledore's Army, and even some students mentioned once or twice in passing. By analyzing the films, novels and video games, several names can be found that paint a bigger picture of the student body of the magical school. As Harry attended Hogwarts from 1991 to 1997, these are the students who attended Hogwarts during that time frame.

With Harry Potter and his immediate circle of friends being in the house of Gryffindor, several students are featured prominently in the story that populates the Gryffindor common room. From Ron's family, there is Ginny Weasley, Fred Weasley, George Weasley and Percy Weasley. Harry's grade class features characters like Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnegan, Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil.
Colin Creevey is introduced in Chamber of Secrets, with his younger brother, Dennis, introduced in Goblet of Fire. The Creevey brothers join Dumbledore's Army in Order of the Phoenix, with Colin dying in the Battle of Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows. Romilda Vane is introduced in Half-Blood Prince as a fourth-year student with a crush on Harry, attempting to smuggle him a love potion. One of the more comedic Gryffindors is Lee Jordan, Fred and George's best friend, who commentates the Quidditch matches.
When Harry joins the Gryffindor Quidditch team in Philosopher's Stone, he is joined by Keeper and Captain Oliver Wood, and Chasers Angelina Johnson, (who later goes on to marry George Weasley) Alicia Spinnet and Katie Bell. These three Chasers all end up joining Dumbledore's Army. When Angelina is appointed captain in Order of the Phoenix, Ron Weasley joins the team as Keeper. However, after a fight with Draco Malfoy, Fred and George are banned from the team, being replaced as Beaters by Andrew Kirke and Jack Sloper.
In Half-Blood Prince, Harry is appointed Quidditch Captain. With Angelina, Alicia, Fred and George having completed their studies, Harry finds replacements after a chaotic tryout session. Ginny Weasley and Demelza Robins join as Chasers, with Ritchie Coote and Jimmy Peakes joining as Beaters. After Ron is hospitalized, Cormac Maclaggen replaces him as Keeper.

The badger is an interesting animal, but some people may not see its connection to Hufflepuff. Here's how the badger symbolizes Hufflepuff's tenets.
Hufflepuff is arguably the house with the least character representation in the story, with none of the major players in Dumbledore's Army being from the house. This was rectified in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, with leading character, Newt Scamander. In the Harry Potter novels, Cedric Diggory is the first Hufflepuff to play a vital role in the story, being a Hogwarts champion in the Triwizard Tournament.
Harry's classmates Ernie Macmillan, Hannah Abbott and Justin Finch-Fletchley are introduced properly in Chamber of Secrets, initially accusing Harry of being the Heir of Slytherin. However, by Order of the Phoenix, they prove their loyalty by joining Dumbledore's Army, along with Susan Bones. Another member of Dumbledore's Army is Zacharias Smith, who proves to be a much less agreeable member of the house. Smith is a rather rude figure from the otherwise friendly house, proving that there are good and bad people no matter their house.
There is very little information presented in the Harry Potter novels about the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, which featured Cedric as Seeker and captain in Prisoner of Azkaban. However, the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup video game released in 2003 provides more information on the players. While there is debate over whether this information could be considered canon, the game features Malcolm Preece, Heidi Macavoy and Tamsin Applebee as Chasers, Maxine O' Flaherty and Anthony Rickett as Beaters, and Herbert Fleet as Keeper.
In Order of the Phoenix, a player called Summerby is mentioned as having replaced Cedric as Seeker, losing the snitch to Ginny after a sneeze slows him down. During Half-Blood Prince, when Luna Lovegood comments on the Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff match, she makes reference to a Chaser, who Minerva McGonagall identifies as Cadwallader.

The wise house of Ravenclaw holds many major characters in the Harry Potter story. Luna Lovegood is by far the most important character, introduced as a year younger than Harry in Order of the Phoenix. Prisoner of Azkaban introduced Cho Chang, expanding on her in Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix as Harry's love interest.
There were several Ravenclaws who joined Dumbledore's Army, such as Harry's year classmates Michael Corner, (who dated Ginny) Anthony Goldstein, Terry Boot and Padma Patil. Cho joined along with her best friend, Marietta Edgecomb, who ended up betraying Dumbledore's Army to Dolores Umbridge. (the films removed this character, making Cho the one to betray the DA under veritaserum potion) In terms of minor characters, Chamber of Secrets introduced Penelope Clearwater as a prefect, as well as Percy's girlfriend. When Horace Slughorn reformed the Slug Club in Half-Blood Prince, seventh-year Marcus Belby was a potential candidate, but his non-relationship with his famous family member disappointed Slughorn.
Hermione Granger is famous for her intelligence, but with her exceptional skills and smarts, why wasn't she placed in Ravenclaw House?
Like the Hufflepuff team, the Ravenclaw Quidditch team were featured minimally in the Harry Potter novels. Introduced properly in Prisoner of Azkaban, the team featured Cho as Seeker, with Roger Davies as captain and Chaser, who eventually went to the Yule Ball as Fleur Delacour's date in Goblet of Fire. The Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game provided information on the rest of the team, with Jeremy Stretton and Randolph Burrow as Chasers, Duncan Inglebee and Jason Samuels as Beaters, and Grant Page as Keeper.
The Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix provided some more information on the team, mentioning boys named Bradley and Chambers as Chasers on the team. However, for the most part, the team is as unexplored in Quidditch as Hufflepuffs are in the whole franchise.

It's evident in the Harry Potter novels that members of Slytherin House are the antagonists of the series. However, with the number of students in the ambitious house, it could be argued that they should not all be judged by the actions and beliefs of a few. Draco Malfoy is one of those Slytherins who gives Slytherin a bad name, along with his friends Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini.
Pansy Parkinson is introduced as Draco's friend and love interest, being the leader of her own gang of Slytherin girls, which likely included Millicent Bulstrode, introduced in Chamber of Secrets, and Daphne Greengrass, who is introduced in Order of the Phoenix as being a student in Harry's year. Draco is revealed to be married to Daphne's sister Astoria Greengrass in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, so it is likely that she was a Slytherin around the same time.
With ambition being one of the qualities valued by Salazar Slytherin, it's no surprise that many strong wizards and witches come from Slytherin House.
As Slytherin is presented as the rival of Gryffindor house in the Harry Potter novels, there is a lot of information on the Slytherin Quidditch team available. In Philospher's Stone, Marcus Flint is introduced as Chaser and Captain, along with Adrian Pucey. Miles Bletchley is mentioned as Keeper, with Terrence Higgs playing as Seeker. In Chamber of Secrets, Malfoy replaces Higgs as Seeker. In Prisoner of Azkaban, during the Quidditch final, Graham Montague and Cassius Warrington are mentioned as Chasers (both of whom join the Inquisitorial Squad in Order of the Phoenix), and Peregrine Derrick and Lucian Bole as Beaters.
Half-Blood Prince makes reference to several changes in the team lineup, with most of the team having completed their studies by the time Harry reaches his sixth year. Crabbe and Goyle had replaced Derrick and Bole as Beaters in Order of the Phoenix, but the sixth novel mentions a student named Vaisy as Chaser, as well as Urquhart as captain. After Draco Malfoy is hospitalized, Ginny mentions the new Seeker as being a student in her year, named Harper.
There are several other students mentioned in the novels in passing comments. While these students have no effect on the story, their presence helps to build the world of Hogwarts, making the castle feel much more populated than the reader is privy to. During the sorting ceremony in Philosopher's Stone, several students are mentioned as being part of Harry's year, such as Sally-Anne Perks, Morag MacDougal, and someone with the last name Moon. During Christmas dinner in Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry notes that there was a first-year student present, who Dumbledore calls Derek.
Goblet of Fire introduces Eloise Midgen, as somewhat of a victim to many jokes from Ron Weasley. Order of the Phoenix introduces Eddie Carmichael as selling a brain elixir to help younger students with their exams. Harold Dingle is also mentioned as being in possession of a dragon claw. Half-Blood Prince introduces Leanne as a friend of Katie Bell (the movies portray Leanne as a Hufflepuff in Harry's year, but this seems unlikely given her close friendship with Katie), and Melinda Bobbin is mentioned as a member of the Slug Club, whose family owns a chain of apothecaries. Hermione makes reference to a pair of girls called the Montgomery sisters, whose little brother was attacked by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback.
The Harry Potter franchise follows the adventure of a young boy introduced a whole new world of magic, mayhem and darkness. Traversing the obstacles in his path, young Harry's rise to heroics pits him against Lord Voldemort, one of the most dangerous wizards in the world and all his minions.
