Bihar: Man Bites Snake Twice After Bitten By Reptile To Reverse Venom’s Effect; Here’s What Happened Next

jagran.com 3 days ago

A man reportedly bit a snake to death after being bitten by it, believing it would reverse the venom’s effect. The incident took place when Santosh Lohar, a railway worker in Bihar’s Nawada, was sleeping at his base camp after a day's work laying railway lines when the snake bit him.

Reacting swiftly, Lohar grabbed the snake and bit it back twice, driven by a local myth that such an action would neutralise the venom. This unconventional response killed the snake. His colleagues promptly rushed him to Rajauli subdivision hospital, where he received medical treatment and survived.

Dr Satish Chandra Sinha of Rajauli subdivision hospital treated Lohar, who responded well to the treatment and was discharged the next day. It remains unclear what type of snake bit him, reported TOI.

The incident underscores a common superstition in parts of India, where it is believed that biting a snake back can transfer the venom back to the reptile. This belief, though unfounded, led Lohar to take drastic action following the snake bite.

In another incident, a man survived five snake bites over two months in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur. This extraordinary survival baffled doctors, who deemed the case "strange." The bites occurred on June 2, June 10, June 17 and twice in July and the man's condition is still stable.
