The Post Wedding To-Do List: 7 Things You Should Do After You’re Married

singaporebrides.com 2 days ago

Yes, there is also a to-do list after the wedding is over. Find out what tasks are on it.

Congratulations, you’re married! Now that the months of planning and the whirlwind of your wedding celebration is over, you’re ready to toss the to-do list out of your life now that the work has come to an end. However, you might not be able to do that quite just yet. After the excitement of your big day has settled, there are still a few essential tasks that will require you to draw up a post-wedding to-do list to ensure that you’ve got your affairs truly into order after the celebration is over.

From the less exciting administrative tasks of returning your rentals and making sure all payments have been made to more exciting ones like taking the time to celebrate your newly-wedded status with your spouse and going on a honeymoon, we’ve listed down 7 things you should and need to do after you’re married.

1. Celebrate your marriage and enjoy your newly-wedded status

After the excitement and flurry of activity dies down, take some time to bask in the glow of being a new Mr and Mrs, and be present in the moment with your spouse. If you’re not jet-setting off to your honeymoon the day after your wedding, consider extending your stay in the bridal suite for another day to relax and be in each other’s company before returning to reality.

2. Make sure all payments have been made

Some vendors such as your wedding venue may allow you to pay the outstanding amount of your total bill after the celebration is over, so do make sure that you’ve made full payment to these vendors. You might also want to tip vendors who’ve gone beyond their way to help you document or make your wedding dreams come true, so remember to do so after you’ve settled down from the partying on your wedding day.

3. Return all the rentals

Like most Singaporean couples, your wedding outfits are likely on rent from your chosen bridal boutique, so after you’ve basked in your newlywed bliss, don’t forget to return them on time. The same goes for anything else you’ve rented for your wedding, such as your wedding car. If they need to be returned the day after the wedding and you’re still in your newly-wedded bubble, enlist the help from your family or bridal party to return them on your behalf so you can continue to enjoy yourself as a newlywed without any disruptions.

4. Count and deposit the money

After the wedding, you are likely to have a large amount of cash on hand from the angbaos you receive from your family and friends at the wedding. It can be overwhelming and stressful to have so much cash in hand, so do set aside some time to take them out from your angbao box, count them and deposit them as soon as you can to prevent any accidents or mishaps from happening.

5. Go on your honeymoon or start planning one

Once all the post-wedding administrative matters have been dealt with, go on your honeymoon! Going on one right after the wedding is over allows you to continue the celebration as you bask in your newlywed bliss. Your honeymoon is also the perfect opportunity for you and your spouse to spend uninterrupted and quality time away from the distractions and stresses of life, strengthening your bond and fostering a deeper emotional connection.

However, if your finances don’t allow you to embark on one immediately after the wedding, that’s okay! Having some down time between your wedding and honeymoon allows you to experience two celebrations! Spend the time after your wedding planning for one together. Mark out the destinations you’d like to honeymoon at and list out activities you’d like to do together, and start counting down the days to when you’re able to do it.

6. Plan a thank-you brunch or dinner for your bridal party

The best way to show your gratitude to your bridal party for their help and support throughout your entire wedding journey is to take them out for a thank-you brunch or dinner after the wedding dust has settled. Additionally, this post-wedding gathering of your bridesmaids and groomsmen allows everyone to reconnect in a relaxed and intimate setting away from the chaos of your wedding day, and celebrate an everlasting friendship.

7. Beat the post-wedding blues by re-directing your focus on other aspects of your life

After the wedding day has come and gone, it is common for couples to experience some form of post-wedding blues when the months of planning and anticipation that kept them excited and busy suddenly come to an end on one single, joyous day. If that sounds like you days after your wedding is over, beat those post-wedding blues by re-directing your focus to other areas of your life or relationship.

For instance, you can focus on getting your new house home ready by discussing renovation plans with your chosen contractor, or shopping for furniture for your home. You can also focus on nurturing your relationship by spending time and bonding your spouse as a newlywed over meaningful activities such as cooking your favourite meal, going for walks or starting a new hobby as a couple.
