The annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week enforcement effort is underway this week.

Operation Safe Driver Week is taking place July 7 to 13 in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The purpose of the event is to curb crashes caused by dangerous driving.

During the week-long effort, drivers can expect to see increased law enforcement presence as police monitor both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers for dangerous behaviors, including:

• Speeding
• Distracted driving
• Aggressive driving
• Following too closely
• Drunk/drugged driving

Drivers caught practicing dangerous behaviors will be pulled over and may be cited.

The focus area for this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week is reckless, careless or dangerous driving.

Data on traffic stops, warnings, and citations will be gathered by law enforcement and submitted to the CVSA.
