At least 50 youth leaders from the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have officially joined the National Resistance Movement (NRM). The event took place at the launch of the Kalume Foundation at Bombo Muslim Secondary School in Luwero district on June 30, 2024.
The Kalume Foundation, founded by Alhaji Abubakar Kalume, aims to transform lives and empower communities through innovative initiatives such as interest-free banking, a state-of-the-art hospital, job creation, industrialization, ICT infrastructure, and talent development.

During the event, the fifty youth supporters from NUP and FDC were warmly welcomed by top NRM officials, including Minister Kaboyo, the State Minister for Luwero-Rwenzori, Ronald Ndawula (Luwero NRM Chairman), Seif Katabaazi (Deputy RDC Luwero), and other senior party leaders.

The State Minister for Luwero Triangle, Hon. Alice Kaboyo, in her remarks, urged the new members to join the fight against rural poverty and emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges.
“The NRM is committed to inclusivity and vision under President Museveni’s leadership,” she said, praising the youth for their timely decision to switch allegiance to the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the minister emphasized the importance of the foundation in securing support for NRM aspiring leaders from the village level to the national leadership level.
“We want to see people in the party rise equally without leaving anyone behind so that all people enjoy the government benefits in their country without discrimination,” said Minister Kaboyo.

Furthermore, I urge you to prioritize environmental conservation. We must take action to mitigate the devastating effects of environmental degradation. Droughts, exacerbated by changes in weather patterns, are a stark reminder of the consequences of human activities. It is our responsibility to protect our wetlands and water bodies. As leaders, we must educate our communities on effective wetland management and encourage sustainable practices. Let us work together to plant trees, preserve our natural resources, and ensure a prosperous future for generations to come.” Minister Kaboyo

Hajji Kalume expressed his optimism about the foundation’s future, stating, “Through the attention and the priority we give to the words of H.E. the President, we have discovered that it is possible, and we believe that our organization will be a role model in achieving the President’s Millennium Development Targets.”

Luwero NRM Chairman, Ronald Ndawula, welcomed and commended the youth of Nyimbwa, Bombo, Ndejje, Makulubita, Katikamu, and Wobulenzi who defected from the opposition to join NRM, pledging to the President that the youth are committed to ensuring NRM’s success in Luwero district.

Seif Katabaazi, Deputy RDC Luwero district, expressed dissatisfaction with the hypocrisy among those who pretend to demand the return of the Kabaka of Buganda while harboring hidden agendas against the Buganda Kingdom and the country. He encouraged people to work together for the nation’s good and to seize opportunities provided by the government.

NRM Mobilizer in Luwero District, Hon. Cissy Mulondo, commended Alhaji Abubakar Kalume for his dedication to the NRM party and his efforts in mobilizing support. She called on people to turn up in large numbers for an upcoming function in Kololo on July 5, 2024, to show their appreciation for President Museveni’s contributions to the country.
