Why Osimhen should not make the mistake to sign for Arsenal

thetalk.ng 2024/5/17

The search for a proven striker is the priority for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal this summer, and Victor Osimhen on the other hand is on the look out for a new club to ply his trade after being reportedly set to leave Napoli in the summer.

As an Arsenal fan, I would ask Victor Osimhen stay away from.

Shocking right? Yeah.

Why Osimhen should not make the mistake to sign for Arsenal

Despite Osimhen being a profilic striker, netting 43 goals last season, I don’t think Osimhen would fit into Arsenal team style.

The London Gunners play with wingers who prefer to cut into their favourite foot and take strikes on goal (volleys and curlers) straight on goal.

This is also one of the reasons Osimhen is below par this season. The likes of Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, Matteo Politano have not been giving Osimhen enough service to thrive in front of goal this season.

Also at Arsenal Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and even Leandro Trossard are not wingers who cross so much for any striker.

Because of this style of play by their wingers last season, Arsenal leading scorers were Gabriel Jesus with a meagre 13 goals and Eddie Nketiah with just nine goals.

This same trend continued this season with Eddie Nketiah netting just six goals, Gabriel Jesus with eight goals and the top scorer being Kai Havertz with just 10 goals this season.

This underlines the fact that Arsenal wingers do not cross enough for a striker, and that will be to the undoing of a player like Osimhen who thrives on headers.

Also, Arsenal’s budget cannot accommodate Osimhen’s wage bill and transfer fees.

Osimhen’s release clause is about 130 Million Euros (around £120m), Arsenal reportedly have about £200m to spend in the summer transfer window, and Arsenal plan to get a midfielder, a winger and a striker within this budget.

Arsenal can therefore not afford Osimhen.

Osimhen should best find his way out of Napoli by the end of this season after  lame defence of the Scudetto and take his shooting boots straight to either Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain, where he will more likely shine than at Arsenal.
