CBI BNS Case: The CBI has registered its first FIR under the provisions of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), officials said on Thursday, adding that the accused are two Delhi Police officers who allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to help with the release of a person lodged in Tihar Jail. The BNS, which replaced the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), came into force on Monday (July 1).

According to officials cited by news agency PTI, the CBI FIR was registered on Wednesday evening and it names Head Constables Ravindra Dhaka and Parveen Saini, both posted in Narcotics Cell, Maurice Nagar, as the accused. The duo have been booked under Section 61(2) (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the BNS and relevant provisions under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the officers added.

The constables have been accused of demanding Rs 10 lakh in bribes from the complainant to help in the release of his jailed brother, who was allegedly found in the possession of NRx drugs, PTI said in its report. NRx drugs cannot be bought over the counter without a prescription from a qualified doctor.

The complainant has reportedly claimed before the CBI that the medicines in question were falsely shown in his brother Koshinder's possession. It is alleged that Dhaka and Saini demanded the bribe in lieu of details of the seized NRx medicines so the complainant could arrange fake bills and submit them before the competent court.
