It appears that there’s no stopping director Nag Ashwin and Prabhas’ epic science fiction Kalki 2898 AD’s majestic run at the box office. During its first week in cinema halls, the Prabhas-starrer had recorded a cumulative India nett collection of Rs 414.85 crore. On its ninth day in theatres, which happened to be a Friday, Kalki 2898 AD registered an India nett collection of Rs 17.25 crore, taking its total domestic collections to Rs 432.1 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. In accordance with the trend of the past few days, the Hindi edition of the movie contributed to a lion’s share of its total collection.

While the Hindi version recorded Rs 9.35 crore, the Telugu edition minted Rs 6 crore and the Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions contributed Rs 1 crore, Rs 70 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, respectively. The film will soon overtake Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter to become the number one Hindi release of 2024. Incidentally, Fighter also featured Kalki star Deepika Padukone in a supporting role. Kalki is currently the second-biggest Hindi release of the year, further proving Prabhas’ pan-India appeal.

It may be recalled that the movie had minted Rs 22.4 crore in the domestic market on Thursday, thus marking a 22.99 per cent dip in its collection on Friday. Kalki 2898 AD’s worldwide gross collection had crossed Rs 700 crore mark on Day 7; updated figures are yet to arrive.

On Friday, Kalki’s 2D version achieved an overall occupancy rate of 31.99 per cent in the Telugu market. The morning shows started with a 19.22 per cent occupancy, which increased to 30.05 per cent in the afternoon, 35.79 per cent in the evening and peaked at 42.90 per cent at night. At the same time, its 3D version recorded an overall occupancy rate of 31.06 per cent.

Helmed by Nag Ashwin of Mahanati fame, Kalki 2898 AD also stars Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles. In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote, “Kalki may have Prabhas as the headliner, but it is Amitabh Bachchan all the way — his Ashwatthama is suitably gravelly and towers over the film. Kamal Haasan comes on sparingly but does leave an impact.”
