A former civil servant turned farmer has lamented the incessant attacks by herdsmen in Ekiti State, revealing that he borrowed money to start his farming venture.

In a viral video, the man expressed his frustration and disappointment, explaining how he left his government job to pursue farming. He shared that he had borrowed over a million naira to cultivate almost two acres of land on Edemo farm in Ekiti State.

He stated, “I borrowed money to start farming. When I realized that government work is not sustainable, I left my job in Abuja last year and moved to Ekiti to farm. I hoped to use farming to support and feed my family since my kids are ready for university.”

“I borrowed more than a million naira to farm on almost two acres of land. However, the herdsmen completely destroyed the two acres of land overnight.”

“People say that the youth are lazy, but that’s not true. The government should come to our aid. Please don’t ignore us. There is no help outside, no employment. We can’t rob or scam; that’s why I turned to farming.”

He pleaded for assistance, saying, “The Ekiti government should please help. I am at Edemo farm in Ekiti. All my work since last year has been wasted. I have fallen into debt and have no idea how to pay it back. This is unbearable!”

Four months after the initial viral video, another herdsmen attack occurred in Ondo on Saturday.

A violent clash broke out between the Ondo state security outfit, known as Amotekun, and some Fulani herdsmen in Akure, the state capital, on July 6, 2024. The incident left many wounded, and approximately 120 cows were seized.
