Jan De Nul to Install High-Voltage Cables for Taiwan's Renewable Energy Project

apexlifehub.com 2 days ago

Jan De Nul Group, a renowned player in the offshore energy industry, has secured a coveted contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the installation of crucial high-voltage export cables at the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Cutting-Edge Cable Installation
Jan De Nul will be tasked with connecting the offshore substation of the wind farm to the Taiwanese onshore grid using cutting-edge AC high-voltage cables. The project will encompass the deployment of the company's specialized cable-laying vessel, Willem de Vlamingh, to lay cables measuring 45 kilometers and 44 kilometers, weighing over 8,000 tonnes collectively. In addition to installation, Jan De Nul will handle the transportation and ensure the protection of cable crossings.

Project Milestones
LS Cable, in collaboration with CIP, has also inked a deal for the supply of onshore and offshore cables for the same project. The Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm is part of Taiwan's Round 3 Zonal Development Offshore Wind Auction, with CIP securing capacity in the initial round held in December 2022.

Renewable Energy Expansion
The expansive Fengmiao offshore wind project, situated 35 kilometers off the coast of Taichung, is set to deliver a substantial 1,800 MW of installed capacity. Construction for the 500 MW Fengmiao 1 segment is scheduled to kick off in 2025, with commercial operations projected to commence in 2027. This venture, spearheaded by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) on behalf of CIP, embodies a significant step towards Taiwan's renewable energy ambitions, featuring advanced offshore wind turbines and a groundbreaking offshore substation.
