The search for a new Super Eagles head coach continues to be a topic of discussion in the Nigeria football fraternity.

Finidi George, who resigned after just two matches in charge, has made a surprising return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as the new head coach of Rivers United.

Reports suggest that George stepped down due to the NFF's plans to appoint a foreign technical adviser without his knowledge.

During his short spell, George faced a challenging start, failing to secure wins against South Africa and Benin Republic in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles drew 1-1 with South Africa and lost 2-1 to Benin Republic in Abidjan.

Sports Minister John Enoh has now tasked the NFF to find a top-class coach with a proven track record to replace George.

"It has to be a name that will inspire the spirit of our nation," Enoh said.

"He has to be a first-class coach with a track record, a pedigree, who will earn the respect of our players."
