EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville man is now facing an attempted murder charge after police say he attacked someone during an argument.

On Sunday, police say they were called to the intersection of South Denby Avenue and East Cherry Street for an assault in progress.

According to a witness, the suspect was attacking the victim with a weapon and repeatedly saying he was going to kill them.

When police arrived on scene, they say they placed the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Tarrell Thomas, into custody.

Police also say they found the victim severely hurt and bleeding from his head. The victim was then taken to the hospital to be treated.

An affidavit shows the victim told officers the argument began while the two were inside his home. That’s when the victim got up to leave the house and as he was walking out, Thomas punched him. The fight then continued in the front yard.

Police say the victim told them while he was walking away, he saw Thomas get into his car and take something out. That’s when Thomas began hitting the victim repeatedly with an object. The victim says Thomas told him multiple times that he was going to kill him.

The Evansville Police Department says when they asked Thomas about the fight he told them he and the victim threw punches at each other. Thomas was then asked what happened after the fist fight and he said “you got his story, go with it.”

According to an affidavit, Thomas also says he did not threaten to kill the victim.

Police say they asked Thomas if he used a weapon to hurt the victim, and that’s when he asked for an attorney.

Thomas was then booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is facing an attempted murder charge.
