Lanre Sagaya: Energy sector is bedrock for economic growth—Oguntala

The National President, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr Margaret Aina Oguntala, has described the energy sector as the backbone of any thriving economy.

She added that its stability directly impact the national development noting that energy landscape in Nigeria has been fraught with challenges that have stymied the economic progress for far long.

Oguntala spoke at the second Engr. Yusuf Lanre Sagaya Annual Lecture tagged: “Harnessing the Energy Resources of Nigeria: A panacea for sustainable Development of the nation” held in Ilorin.

ROYAL NEWS reports that the NSE Vice President, Engr. Adebayo Sunday-Joseph while the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR was also represented by the Danmasani of Ilorin, Engr. Sulaiman Yahaya Alapansanpa.

In his remarks, the Chairman of NSE, Ilorin Branch, Engr. Taiwo Issa Ola-Shehu said the branch chose to be addressing contemporary issues in relation to the state of critical infrastructures in Nigeria in order to make impactful contributions for meaningful socio- economic emancipation of the generality of the citizens.

Guest Speaker, Professor Abubakar Sambo, while delivering his lecture said, “the theme of the event is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He added that “There is need to fine-tune the power sector, transport sector and Industrial sectors.”

Speaking at the event, the Director General, National Power Training Institute of Nigeria, (NAPTIN), Mallam Ahmed Bolaji-Nagode said “signing into law the Electricity Act by President Bola Tinubu is a game changer in the sector and called on Nigerians to support the government for the development of the country.”
