JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Hickory, North Carolina man was arrested in Jonesborough on Friday after Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies discovered he was a fugitive wanted for taking indecent liberties with a child.

A news release from the WCSO said Raymond Edward Harmon Jr., 58, was arrested following a traffic stop for expired tags on his vehicle Friday night at around 8 p.m. on Highway 107.

Upon making contact, deputies found that Harmon was an active fugitive from North Carolina for indecent liberties with a child and was also convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 1989, the release said.

The WCSO said when deputies asked Harmon to exit his vehicle, they observed a pistol in a holster on his right hip. While the WCSO was preparing his vehicle to be towed by taking inventory, they found another small pistol in the center console, according to the release.

Harmon was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and was transported to the Washington County Detention Center to await extradition. Harmon appeared in court on Monday for charges received by the WCSO during Friday night’s traffic stop, the release said.
