Determined to make sure the lingering crisis between Okoloba, Akugbene and Okuama communities in Delta state comes to an end, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi has met with their leaders and members of the communities.

The CP who met with the leaders over the weekend at the Area Command’s office in Warri, blamed leaders of the various communities for their failure and inability to control the youths and for allowing communication gap which culminated to the crisis.

CP Olufemi regretted that the people from the three communities were living together in peace for many years until the recent dispute over land and fishing right, saying the meeting became necessary to resolve the crisis.

Flanked by the Delta State Director-General, Security, Hon. David Tonwea, the CP further stated that the meeting was not to pass judgement over the land dispute, but to look for a way out to bring peace among the three communities.

“All the Command wants is to find a way of resolving the dispute and stop the continuous crisis that has been leading to loss of human lives,” CP Olufemi said.

Having listen to all the leaders, the CP said it would be fair to blame the failure of leaders of the various communities and their inability to control the youths and communication gap for the crisis.

The D-G Security, Hon. Tonwea who represented the state government at the meeting, remarked that the conflict is not new to the state government.

“The problems are the boundary issues, the fishing right issue and thirdly, leadership issue,” Tonwea stated.

He mandated the representative of Okuama community to provide the leadership to enable fruitful discussion with the government to resolve the crisis.

Tonwea acknowledged the effort of Dr. David Akpovokeme of Okoloba community and Prof Actor Ekpekpo of Okuama community in the effort to address the lingering crisis.

The representative from Okuama community, Hon. Belvis Adogbo in his remark, also appreciated the effort of the state and the police for their effort in ensuring that the crisis comes to an end, these were also buttressed by the representatives of both Akugbene and Okoloba communities.
