Benue Senator dragged to court for ordering detention of driver for 2 weeks

A driver identified as Mr. Oliver Tersoo Abele has slammed a N100 million lawsuit against the Senator representing Benue North-West in the Red Chamber, Senator Titus Tartenger Zam, accusing him of violation of his rights.

It was reliably gathered that Oliver Tersoo Abele, an uncle to the Senator, has been in police detention for over two weeks on the Senator’s order.

The suit was filed at a High Court in Abuja, by Mr. Oliver Tersoo’s lawyers, Matthias Ikyav, Esq and Hellen Gbor, Esq of MAL Ikyav & Co, and was obtained on Tuesday.

Respondents in the suit are; Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, Garki, Abuja; DPO, Galadima Police Post, Gwarinpa, Abuja and Senator Titus Tartenger Zam.

According to the court documents made available to our correspondent on Tuesday, Tersoo was arrested on Tuesday, 18″ June, 2024 by the Nigerian Police at Gwarinpa, Abuja and has since been in detention.

In the filed motion, Oliver Tersoo is demanding for an order compelling the Respondents, jointly and severally, to pay to the Applicant (Himself) the sum of N100,000,000.00 (One Hundred Million Naira) only as exemplary damages for the violation of his fundamental rights.

Also an order compelling the Respondents, jointly and severally, to tender public apologies to the Applicant for their reprehensible conducts and the sum of N1,500,000.00 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only jointly and severally against the Respondents as cost of this Suit.

The suit seeks “An order compelling the 1 and 2nd Respondents to forthwith, release the Applicant unconditionally or upon conditions which will ensure his availability whenever needed in respect of the investigation of the allegation.

“An order restraining the 1-3rd Respondents from further arresting, detaining or harassing the Applicant in respect of the same complaint which is the subject matter of this Suit.

“An order compelling the Respondents, jointly and severally, to tender public apologies to the Applicant for their reprehensible conducts.

“An order compelling the Respondents, jointly and severally, to pay to the Applicant the sum of N100,000,000.00 (One Hundred Million Naira) only as exemplary damages for the violation of his fundamental rights. The sum of 1,500,000.00 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) only jointly and severally against the Respondents as cost of this Suit.

“And for such further or other order(s) as this Honourable Court may deem fit to make in the circumstances of this case”, it stated. Meanwhile, the court is yet to fix a date for the hearing of the case.

The driver, who was a worker with Senator, Titus Tartenger Zam, Is being accused of allegedly selling a Range Rover car belonging to the 3rd Respondent, and invested the proceeds of the sale in farm business without the consent and approval of the Senator.
