JAPA: 8 Countries Welcoming Nigerian Masters Students and Their Dependants

Are you a Nigerian master’s student who wants to study abroad but afraid of leaving your family behind? several countries offer supportive visa arrangements that allow students to bring their dependents along.

As a student, it makes the movement smoother and keeps the family together.

Here is a guide to eight countries where this is possible:

1. Canada

Canada plans to welcome many new immigrants annually to boost its economy and support family reunification. Their immigration targets include 465,000 new residents in 2023, 485,000 in 2024, and 500,000 in 2025.

The country allows international students to bring family members who can work or study full-time with the right permits.

2. Germany

Germany offers a dependent or family reunion visa. This allows the spouses, children, and other family members of students to live in Germany either temporarily or permanently.

3. New Zealand

New Zealand’s dependent child student visa lets children join their parents and study at primary or secondary schools without international tuition fees.

4. Australia

Australia’s dependent visa permits family members of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live and work in Australia. This includes spouses and children.

5. Denmark

Denmark requires international students who want to bring their families to apply for a green card-dependent visa. This is specifically for the spouse or unmarried children under 18 of those holding a Denmark student visa.

6. Finland

Finland has improved its visa processing times recently. The D visa allows immediate travel to Finland after a residence permit is issued. It’s available for the spouses or children of those applying for certain residence permits.

7. Estonia

In Estonia, family members of students with a student visa can apply for a family visa. This visa allows them to stay in Estonia for up to one year.

8. Sweden

Sweden offers various types of permits that allow people to bring their dependents. The type of permit needed depends on the resident’s situation.
