DeepSeek vs ChatGPT comparison
The whole AI and tech industry is furious about China’s new AI model, Deepseek. It is reportedly the ChatGPT killer and far more advanced than OpenAI’s model. DeepSeek promises a far more advanced AI model than ChatGPT. However, it is also cheaper compared to the cost of OpenAI’s model. But is Deepseek good, and does it kill ChatGPT? Well, in this post, we will compare both AI models and see which one is better.
Both Deepseek and ChatGPT are very powerful AI models. However, Deepseek is an AI company that is strongly focused on making AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence, a reality. ChatGPT isn’t focusing on AGI much at the moment.
Deepseek’s strengths include a general LLM model and DeepThink (R1). The general model can provide answers and results similar to those of GPT3.
However, its DeepThink (R1) model is a standout. DeepThink (R1) focuses on tasks requiring reasoning and deeper thinking. So whenever you generate an answer with the DeepThink (R1) model selected, the AI will think of the question for a couple of moments before giving you an answer. As a result, you will get a much better response from DeepSeek than from ChatGPT.
However, after DeepSeek received a lot of attention, ChatGPT, too, added the reasoning feature to its AI model, which can be accessed free of cost. But apart from reasoning, how do the two AI models compete with each other?
DeepSeek is biased compared to ChatGPT. Being a Chinese AI model, Deepseek doesn’t answer questions related to Chinese history neutrally. For instance, if you ask Deepseek questions related to Tiananmen Square, you will get a biased answer, whereas ChatGPT answers remain neutral.
Here is ChatGPT’s response:
While testing the reasoning feature, we went for the classic question, “All dogs are mammals. All mammals are warm-blooded. Therefore, all dogs are warm-blooded. Explain why this conclusion is valid.”
As per our testing, Deepseek took way more time than ChatGPT to conclude, while ChatGPT was quick.
Although both models gave accurate answers, DeepSeek’s answer was more detailed and filled with examples, whereas ChatGPT’s reply was fast and less descriptive.
Content Creation Task
ChatGPT is widely used for content creation, so it was obvious that a test against Deepseek should be put in place. To test this, we asked both the models to create a blog post outline to explain What is an LLM model and here’s how the results appeared:
Both models almost gave a similar result with similar headings and content bits. However, the DeepSeek blog post outline was a little bit more descriptive. The difference is minor, and you can always tweak the outline further using web search, which is again available on both models.
Here is ChatGPT’s response:
Coding is another area where both of these AI models are heavily used. So we asked DeepSeek and ChatGPT to code a simple password generator using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and here is how it went:
Both models gave me the right code at the first attempt, so no tweaking was needed. However, ChatGPT gave me a one-file code that contains HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Also, UI-wise, it was pretty basic.
But DeepSeek gave me 3 different files for HTML, CSS, and JS, which is better for making future code changes. Also, UI-wise, DeepSeek was far better than ChatGPT.
While it may not yet be as focused on AGI as DeepSeek, its performance in language understanding and dialogue creation remains incredibly robust. So, depending on what you’re looking for—whether it’s more reasoning-heavy responses from DeepSeek or dynamic, user-focused interactions from ChatGPT—you have options that cater to different needs.
Currently, several AI models are challenging ChatGPT. While each of these AI models may not be good at everything, they are pretty good at handling specific tasks.
The answer to whether there is better AI available than ChatGPT is very subjective. And it depends on your usage and needs.
Several rumors and discussions have suggested that DeepSeek may have used Open AI’s earlier versions, like GPT 3 or GPT 3.5, to develop the Chinese AI model. However, according to the official statements, DeepSeek is an independent development and not a derivative of OpenAI’s technologies.
There are a lot of key features that make DeepSeek special and a far better option than ChatGPT.
DeepSeek is a better AI model than ChatGPT. It has shown strong performance in solving problems related to math, coding, engineering, and data analysis. However, as it is a Chinese AI, there are speculations about data privacy.
