LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 3 premiered on Sunday, June 30, 2024, on HBO.

The intriguing episode provided a precursor to the looming battle between the Green and Black factions. The show's epic storytelling is incomplete without adding some supernatural elements and Episode 3 had just that.

The episode saw Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) take his dragon Caraxes to Harrenhall where Ser Simon Strong (Simon Russell Beale) surrendered the castle to Daemon without putting up a fight.

Daemon who decides to stay the night at Harrenhall is in for a haunting experience. He sees a younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen played by Milly Alcock holding Jaehaerys Targaryen in her lap.

He also sees Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), a new character who predicts Daemon's death at Harrenhall.

Here's a look at these events and what they could mean for 'House of the Dragon'

Why does Daemon see Rhaenyra and Jaehaerys?

Daemon is a complex character who is extremely instinctive and has committed many actions in the past that play on his psychology. With this scene, however, it becomes apparent that he carries the guilt of Jaehaerys more than anything.

Daemon never intended to kill Jaehaerys and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) was his actual target when he organized Blood and Cheese. When he sees Rhaenyra now, he still sees her as the young girl he took with him to the Flea Bottom.

Perhaps, he still wants to see Rhaenyra as that girl and not the queen she has become now. He carries the guilt of letting his Queen down as well and feels that his actions and the death of Jaehaerys will have long-standing consequences on Rhaenyra's rule.

The haunted castle of Harrenhall gives him a surreal vision where Rhaenyra puts Jaehaerys to sleep. Daemon does have a good side to him too and the one aspect of his character that cannot be questioned is his loyalty.

He was incredibly loyal to his brother Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and he continues to be loyal to Rhaenyra despite his own ambition for the throne.

Apart from the vision, he also receives a warning where Alys Rivers tells him that he will die in Harrenhall.

Who is Alys Rivers?

Alys Rivers is somewhat like the character of Melisandre (Carice van Houten) in 'Game of Thrones'. She is a wet nurse in Harrenhall who is known to have a supernatural instinct. Like Melisandre, she is expected to be older but with mystical powers, she can hide her age.

In 'Fire and Blood', she has a run-in with Daemon Targaryen before she becomes involved with Aemond Targaryen.

She becomes Aemond's lover later in the story and also becomes her widow who claims to have given birth to his son.

There are speculations about Alys being the illegitimate child of Lyonel Strong (Gavin Spokes).

Will Daemon die in Harrenhall?

The prediction of Alys Rivers does come true and Daemon indeed dies in God's Lake near Harrenhall. The death happens as Aemond and Daemon kill each other while on their menacing dragons.

Daemon's death becomes the turning point as Vhagar, the most dangerous dragon ridden by Aemond is also killed paving the way for Rhaenyra to take King's Landing.

Daemon's body is never found in 'Fire and Blood' and that does keep the rumors about him being alive going strong. It will be interesting to see how that is interpreted in 'House of the Dragon'
