Manchester United are back in action next Monday, 15 July, when our pre-season friendly against Rosenborg will be shown live on MUTV.

We will be covering the return of Erik ten Hag's Reds in Trondheim, with the game kicking off at 18:00 local time (17:00 BST).

It is the first of our matches in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign and presents a chance to see United debuting the new adidas home shirt.

TEAM NEWS

Some of the players have reported back to training at Carrington already, including the likes of Andre Onana, Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford, who were all spotted by our cameras.

We will have more detailed team news in due course but Harry Maguire has been working hard to recover from the injury that kept him out of Euro 2024 and was another of those who was seen back at base.

THE OPPOSITION

Rosenborg are fit and fresh as their Eliteserien programme is ongoing, with the team currently sitting in seventh place in the table.

The record Norwegian league winners beat Odd 2-1 at the weekend and face Sarpsborg on Friday evening.

Alfred Johansson's men are captained by Markus Henriksen, who has previously played for Hull City and Bristol City. Assistant coach Alex Tettey was formerly with Norwich City and scored for the Canaries at Old Trafford in a 2-1 win back in 2015.

Rosenborg played Hearts in last term's UEFA Conference League and despite only finishing ninth in Norway, they had the second-biggest average attendance domestically, behind Brann, to reflect the size of the club.

The Lerkendal Stadium encounter should be a real test for Erik's side at this early stage of the pre-season period.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The two clubs have never met in an official competitive fixture. However, there have been a couple of friendlies in the past.

In a pre-season game in 1992, Paul Ince, Brian McClair and Denis Irwin scored for Alex Ferguson's side during a 3-2 victory, ahead of our first Premier League title-winning campaign. There was also a friendly in 1977, United's first match in Norway, which ended in an 8-0 success.

Gordon Hill led the way with a double, as Alex Forsyth, Sammy McIlroy, David McCreery, Jimmy Greenhoff, Martin Buchan and an own goal completed the rout, in front of around 8,000 spectators.
