It is no secret that Argentina's national team arrived at the Conmebol Copa America 2024 as the favorites as the reigning champions and with Lionel Messi in the team.

It may not be the riskiest move, but plenty of people have put money on Argentina winning the tournament and they expect to receive some winnings.

Through his social media, UFC fighter Conor McGregor reported that he bet the enormous amount of 365,000 dollars in favour of Messi and the Argentinians to repeat the title won in the Brazil 2021 edition, reported ESPN.

Argentina, Conor McGregor's favourite to be Copa America 2024 champion

McGregor, a two-time UFC champion, hinted that he expects the South American team to follow suit and win the tournament again, just as they did three years ago.

"The World Cup Champs, @Argentina aim to follow in The Mac's footsteps by becoming The Champ Champs by lifting The Copa America trophy. The OG Champ Champ is behind you!" said the Irish fighter.

With the bet launched, McGregor expects to win up to more than a million dollars.

Immediately, the responses to the MMA fighter's post began to cascade. Most were in favour of his "not so risky bet" and showed their support for McGregor and Messi, but there were a few others who took McGregor's post as a mockery.

Some of his Argentinian fans even invited him to have some mate with them, or to enjoy a delicious Argentinian empanada and drink some Argentinian wine.

It should be remembered that Argentina qualified for the quarter-finals where they will face Ecuador after finishing unbeaten and without conceding a goal in the group stage, beating Canada (2-0), Chile (1-0) and Peru (2-0).

The world champions are also seeking their first two-time championship since winning the tournament in 1991 and 1993 under Alfio Basile.
