A maize farm in Ijebu-ode, Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria, has been destroyed by a daring attack from Fulani herders, inciting widespread outrage among local farmers. 

The distressing incident, which was captured in a viral video by the farm's owner, revealed the devastating aftermath of the assault.

"We planted maize just last month, and it had begun to grow after recent rains," lamented the farmer in the video. "But this morning, I found our entire farm destroyed by Fulani herders."

Footage showed destroyed crops, knocked-over scarecrows, and clear traces of the invaders, including footprints and scattered cow dung, underscoring the severity of the overnight rampage. 

The farmer vehemently defended Nigerian youth against accusations of laziness, emphasising their education and determination despite formidable challenges.

In a plea for justice and action, the farm owner condemned the attack as not just an assault on the farm, but on the livelihoods and aspirations of the community. 

Activists echoed these sentiments, urging authorities to intervene decisively in the escalating conflicts over land use between farmers and herders.

The incident has highlighted broader issues of insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria's rural areas, where agriculture plays a crucial role in sustaining communities. 

Calls for enhanced security measures and sustainable solutions to protect farmers and prevent future conflicts have intensified on social media and among concerned citizens.
