PLASIEC Engages IPAC On Need For Free, Fair LG Elections

In a strategic move to boost engagement and seamlesss conduct of a transparent, secure and successful Local Government elections in Plateau State, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC has engaged in fruitful discussion with members of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC in the state.

The meeting which was held behind closed doors afforded members of both PLASIEC and IPAC the opportunity to share and exchange ideas on how best to collaborate for an effective and satisfactory outing at the local government polls.

Chairman of PLASIEC, Hon Plangji Cishak said the Commission under his watch will leave no stone unturned to ensure modalities are in place for a smooth electoral process.

Cishak said the Commission is saddled with a five year election project which aim to establish a consistent election cycle and reduce the need for interim arrangements.

He outlined a vision to enhance the commission’s independence, develop a comprehensive database, and introduce technology in phases to improve election management.

Cishak also highlighted the robust support from the state government, noting that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has given members of the Commission a free hand to operate.

Chairmen and Members of the various committees of the Commission took turns to enlighten on measures so far taken preparatory to the forth coming elections.

Chairman of IPAC, Chris Hassan on his part, identified the importance of Electoral Institutions to the development of society and sued for adequate funding of the Commision by the Government.

Hassan advocated for the creation political parties that will focus more on the unity of the people and commended PLASIEC for its efforts so far in collaborating with various stakeholders.

He challenged members of the Commission on the need to model an election that will serve as a reference point for other SIECS to emulate.
