It's nearing a month since Finidi George departed his role as coach of the Super Eagles, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still without a suitable replacement.

Since the 53-year-old's departure, several foreign managers have expressed interest in managing the Nigerian team. However, the NFF has yet to reach an agreement with any coach.

The coaching situation is particularly concerning given the precarious position of the Nigerian team in their FIFA World Cup qualification group.

According to FotMob, the Super Eagles currently sit fifth in their Group C standings, only ahead of Zimbabwe, after failing to win any of their opening four fixtures.

Amid discussions and concerns within the country’s football community, an NFF chief has explained the reason for the delay in appointing the next coach of the Super Eagles.

According to a report from OwnGoalNigeria, a Nigeria football chief who opted to speak anonymously, stated the delay is largely due to the lack of interest from foreign coaches.

The NFF chief stated that several high-profile coaches deem the immediate task of qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup as a tricky task and would prefer to stay away from it.

The federation chief, however, concluded by stating the NFF is keen on completing the process to appoint the next coach of the Super Eagles before the end of August and ahead of the next round of qualification games.
