President Joe Biden is leading Donald Trump in two key battleground states, according to a new poll.
The Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, published on Saturday, found that overall Biden is trailing Trump by just 2 percent across seven swing states.

Biden is leading Trump in Michigan, 48 percent to 43 percent, and in Wisconsin, 47 percent to 44 percent, according to the poll. But in Pennsylvania, where Biden grew up, he is trailing Trump, who has 51 percent of support compared to the president’s 44 percent.

The incumbent is also behind Trump in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, although he is within the poll’s statistical margin of error in those states.

The poll surveyed 4,902 registered voters in the seven swing states between July 1 and 5. The margin of error was 1 percentage point.

The Biden and Trump campaigns have been contacted for comment via email. The results come as Biden’s poor debate performance late last month raised concerns about the 81-year-old’s age and fitness to serve another term as president and his ability to defeat Trump in November.

“While the first 2024 presidential debate appeared to alarm some Democratic leaders, our surveys of swing-state for Bloomberg News show the matter has done little to change the underlying dynamics of the contest,” Morning Consult U.S. political consultant Eli Yokley wrote in the poll release.

The poll found that more than half of respondents said Trump won the debate, while only 13 percent said Biden had. Bloomberg’s survey is somewhat at odds with other national polls released since the debate, which have shown Trump expanding his lead over Biden.

The latest New York Times/Siena College poll found Trump was leading Biden by six percentage points, 49 percent to 43 percent.

Biden has faced calls to drop out of the race since the debate, but has repeatedly said he will not.

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday, he called his debate performance a “bad episode” and said there were “no indications of any serious condition.

” Biden also said that the “vast majority” of the Democratic Party did not want him to him to step aside.

“I don’t doubt there’s some folks there,” he said. “Have you ever seen a group at times, elected officials, running for office that aren’t a little worried? Have you ever seen that? I have not.

At least five sitting Democratic lawmakers have called for Biden to step down. “Given what she saw and heard from the president during last week’s debate, coupled with the lack of a forceful response from the president himself following the debate, I do not believe that the president can effectively campaign and win against Donald Trump,” Democrat Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota said on Saturday.

“I respectfully call on President Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee for a second term as president and allow for a new generation of leaders to step forward.
