Senators from Borno State

Borno has three senators representing the three senatorial districts. They are:

Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan

Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan

Sen. Lawan is a first-term senator in the 10th Assembly, representing Borno Central Senatorial District under the platform of the APC. Sen. Lawan was the commissioner and attorney general of Borno State in 2013, and in 2015, he was appointed Special Adviser on Legal matters. Click on this link for more information on Sen. Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume

Sen. Ndume is serving his fourth term as a Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. He is currently the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate. In 2003, Senator Ndume was elected to represent the people of Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the All Nigeria People Party (ANPP) platform from 2003 to 2011.

On the inauguration of the sixth (6th) Assembly in 2007, he was unanimously elected as the Minority Leader. In December 2010, barely 100 days before the 2011 elections, Senator Ndume decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the injustices in the party as his reason for leaving. In 2011, he contested for a senatorial seat for Borno South and was elected under the platform of the PDP. In 2015, Senator Ndume decamped to the APC and is currently a member of the party.

Senator Ndume has chaired and participated in several committees, as the; Chairman of Army Committee from June 2019 to June 2023, Vice-Chairman of the Rules & Business Committee from June 2015 to June 2019 and also the Majority Leader in the Senate from 2015 to June 2019. Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno

Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno

Sen. Monguno, born on 12th February 1966, is a lawyer by profession and is serving his first term as a Senator representing  Borno North Senatorial District under the Platform of the APC having served 16 years as a member of the House of Representatives representing Marte-Monguno-Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno State.

He was the Majority Chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives. The Lawmaker had served as Honourable Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General between 2003 and 2005, a small stint as Honourable Commissioner for Education (2005 – 2006) and Honourable Commission for Water Resources (2006 – 2007) in Borno state. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2007 and was a member of the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th assemblies. Click on this link for more information on Sen. Rep. Betara is a Fifth-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Biu/Kwaya-Kusar/Shani/Bayo Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Rep. Bukar Talba

Rep. Talba was born on June 13th 1978. He is a first-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing Monguno/Marte/Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Rep. Jaha Ahmadu Usman

Rep. Jaha, born on February 2nd 1974 is a second-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. He was a Member of the Borno State House Of Assembly from 2007 to 2015 and later appointed as the Commissioner for Higher Education in Borno State from 2015 to 2018. Rep Mallam Gana Bukar Kareto

Rep. Kareto was born on December 31st 1969, in Borno State. He is currently serving his third time as a  Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Kukawa/Mobbar/Abadam/Guzamala Federal Constituency of Borno State under the platform of the APC. Kareto was elected in 1995 to serve as a Councilor of Kareto Ward in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. He was re-elected for a second term in 1998. In 2004, he served as a Caretaker Chairman of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. In 2007, he was elected as a member of the Borno State House of Assembly. Rep.  Midala Usman Balami

Rep. Balami is a First-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the PDP. Rep. Bukar is a two-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Dikwa/Mafa/Konduga Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Rep. Rahis Abdulkadir

Rep. Rahis Abdulkadir

Rep. Abdulkadir was born on June 30th 1968, in Borno State. He is a third-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. In 1997, Rep. Abdulkadir was elected as ward chairman of his Shehuri south under the defunct UNDP. In 1999, he became the Treasurer of the APP for the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. He was subsequently appointed as a Board member of the El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club in 2003, rising to become the Board Chairman of the said club. From 2006 to 2011, Rep. Abdulkadir was elected as Borno State Youth Leader for two consecutive terms. In 2011, Governor Kashim Shettima appointed him as his Special Assistant before becoming the caretaker committee chairman of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, a position he held for five consecutive times from 2012 to 2015. Rep. Satomi Alhaji Ahmed

Rep. Ahmad, born on February 21st 1981, in Borno State, is a two-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Before his election to the 9th-10th Assembly, he served as the chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency and head of Borno State Road Maintenance Agency in 2009. Rep. Usman Zannah

Rep. Usman Zannah

Rep. Zannah is a two-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Kaga/Gubio/Magumeri Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Rep. Zannah was born on September 15th 1964, in Borno State. He was first elected as Local Government Chairman of Magumeri from 1998 to 2000 and later Appointed as Caretaker of Magumeri Local from Government 2006 to 2007, in 2008 he was appointed as Special Adviser on agriculture from 2008 – 2010, and from 2011- 2018, he was appointed as Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Works and Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs. Rep. Zainab Gimba

Rep. Zainab Gimba

Rep. Gimba is a Second-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing Bama/Ngala/Kalabalge Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. From 2011 to 2014, she served as the Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Youth Empowerment in Borno state. Notably, she is the only female member from Borno State.
