Troops under Operation Hadin Kai, North-East and local hunters successfully thwarted a Boko Haram plot to blow up high-tension electric pylons near Damaturu, the Borno state capital.

Nigerian Tribune learned that the terrorists on July 6, 2024, had planned to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to destroy the critical infrastructure, potentially leaving thousands without power.

According to a source from the 27 Task Force Brigade, the troops and hunters set up an ambush and engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to flee and abandon their vehicles.

The vehicle was later searched, revealing eight IEDs, detonating cords, and a trade test card belonging to one Emmanuel Adamu.

The operation demonstrates the intensified intelligence-led efforts of Operation Hadin Kai to neutralize terrorist plans to use IEDs. The troops’ ability to gather and act on intelligence has been a significant factor in their recent successes against the terrorist group.

No further contact was made with the terrorists after the initial confrontation, and the recovered items are now in the custody of the 27 Task Force Brigade for further investigation.

The foiled plot is a significant victory in the fight against terrorism in the region. The collaboration between the military and local hunters has proven to be an effective strategy in combating the terrorist group.
