Man docked for allegedly obstructing arrest of notorious criminal

A 32-year-old man, Rasheed Abiola, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, for allegedly obstructing the arrest of a notorious criminal.

Abiola, whose address was not provided, is being charged with obstruction, aiding and abetting.

The Prosecutor, Philip Amusan, told the court that Abiola committed the offence at about 2.10pm on April 12, within the court’s jurisdiction.

Amusan said that the defendant armed himself with a cutlass and other dangerous weapons to obstruct the arrest of a notorious armed robber.

The prosecutor said that the defendant aided the armed robber to evade police arrest.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 516 and 197 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Court President, Moji Aworemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Aworemi said that one of the sureties must be a religious leader and a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case until May 28 for hearing.
