The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that the anti-graft war of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is gaining momentum, even as he warned fraudsters that there will be no hiding place for them in the country.
The EFCC boss spoke on Thursday in Abuja during the commissioning of EFCC Radion at the Commission’s headquarters.
Olukoyede said the commissioning of the radio station offers a platform “for discussions, a marketplace of ideas and sounding board of knowing the pulse of the nation concerning our work. It will provide real-time feedback from the public about our work.”
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who spoke at the event, said, it is “indeed very important for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be deliberate and strategic about shaping the narratives around the all-important war being waged against corruption in our country.”
He assured the anti-graft agency that he “will do everything in my power to support your goals and objectives. We will also, working through the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), ensure that we encourage other relevant public sector agencies to do likewise, and contribute to the task of informing, enlightening and sensitising the public.
“The second pillar of our 5-point Agenda at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation is to amplify the policies and programs of the Federal Government.
Senate committee chairman on Anti-corruption, Emmanuel Odende, revealed how corruption has dented the image of Nigeria.
“Economic crimes have caused serious damage to Nigeria. Corruption is a monster we’re dealing with. The fear of EFCC has become the beginning of economic and financial wisdom in Nigeria. Anti-graft fight is a war and we don’t expect the other side not to fight back.
“There’s a lot of misinformation on social media. This radio station will correct that. The 10th Senate will continue to support the fight against corruption in Nigeria.”
