Manchester United are considering a move for a Champions League winner in a bid to strengthen one key area of Erik ten Hag’s squad, according to stunning reports.

The Red Devils are expected to have a busy summer transfer window, including the arrival of new signings and the departure of current first-team players.

Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane are among the players who have already left Manchester United this summer after their contracts with the club expired.

Forgotten United player Donny van de Beek is believed to be on the brink of completing a permanent move away from Old Trafford.

United are also keen to offload Red Devils misfit Jadon Sancho, while Mason Greenwood has attracted interest from the likes of Marseille, Lazio and Juventus.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team are expected to reinforce United’s squad options, with Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt believed to be two key targets for the club.

Man Utd eyeing up Champions League winner

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag faced major problems at left-back during the Red Devils’ up-and-down 2023-24 season at Old Trafford.

First-choice left-back Luke Shaw managed 15 appearances across all competitions for United and missed the second half of the campaign due to an injury.

Tyrell Malacia, who was brought to Old Trafford in 2022 by Erik ten Hag, missed the entirety of the 2023-24 Premier League season due to a long-term injury.

Sergio Reguilon arrived on deadline day as a loan signing in 2023, but United activated the break clause in his deal and he returned to Tottenham in January.

According to The Daily Mail, United are now ‘considering’ a move for Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell this summer.

The newspaper reports that Ben Chilwell is ‘among the options’ that United are considering amid their hunt for ‘competition’ for Shaw’s role at the club.

Chilwell arrived at Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 and has lifted a Champions League title during his time at the Blues.

The 27-year-old Chelsea defender managed only 21 appearances for the Blues last season after his campaign was disrupted by injuries.

Man Utd star Shaw returns to action

Luke Shaw was included in the England squad for Euro 2024, despite recovering from injury and missing the second half of the season for United.

The 28-year-old United star is England’s only specialist left-back at the tournament, with Ben Chilwell being left out of the squad by manager Gareth Southgate.

Shaw finally made his first appearance at this summer’s Euros after he came off the bench in England’s penalty shootout win over Switzerland in the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the match, the England star said: “It felt amazing, to be honest. It’s been a really long road. I’ve had a lot of setbacks.

“I think the hard work I’ve put in, especially over the last few weeks, make it worthwhile.

“Last night was a very nice moment for me and to be back on the pitch, to enjoy being back on the pitch, and to cap it off with a win was a really nice feeling for me and a very happy one.”
