A 33-YEAR-old accused who attacked a member of the public with an okapi knife was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The incident took place in Matanzima Street, Galeshewe, on October 25, 2023, when the accused, Vincent Loff, approached the complainant and his friend who were walking to a local spaza shop at around 1pm.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane said the accused aggressively demanded money from the complainant, who was not carrying any cash on him.

“He stabbed the man once in the chest with the okapi knife and fled the scene.”

Pilane stated that the accused was arrested at a hideout in the Riemvasmaak shanties near Galeshewe following a “meticulous” police investigation.

“He was declared unfit to possess a firearm. SAPS management applauded the investigating office, Warrant Officer Stephen Wax from the Galeshewe General Detectives unit, for ensuring that acts of violence will not be tolerated and that perpetrators will face the full might of the law,” Pilane added.
