MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) - A Michigan man was sentenced to two life terms in prison Tuesday in Monongalia County Circuit Court.

Cleotis Eppes was sentenced to serve two, consecutive life terms in prison by Monongalia County Circuit Judge Paul Gwaltney for the 2022 murder of Matthew Moore.

A jury found Eppes guilty of the murder in March and decided they did not recommend mercy, which meant he will never be eligible for parole. Gwaltney decided to take that suggestion and run the life sentences consecutively, according to the Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Eppes was sentenced to one life sentence for the first-degree murder conviction, another life sentence for kidnapping Moore and one to five years for conspiracy to commit murder, all of which will run consecutively, officials said.

Eppes was also ordered to pay more than $8,000 in restitution to Moore’s family, officials said.
