‘Less Yamal, More Jamal’: Germany Vow to Attack against Spain

Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, said his team had more than enough attacking talent to match Spain’s offensive potency in Friday’s Euro 2024 quarterfinal in Stuttgart.

“My focus is less on (Lamine) Yamal, more on Jamal (Musiala),” the trainer stated, before mentioning “we can do something in attack ourselves” .

“Our primary goal is to have possession of the ball. We intend to assault and make life tough for them.”

Musiala, 21, returns to his hometown of Stuttgart having scored in three of Germany’s four games at Euro 2024.

Led in attack by the 16-year-old Yamal and Nico Williams, 21, on the other wing, Spain are the only side to have won all of their matches so far at Euro 2024.

Nagelsmann called Yamal “a very talented player who is fun to watch” and said “you can’t defend him completely…. you have to be prepared for different things”.

The 36-year-old coach said the teenager’s age could be a disadvantage, saying “he’s only 16” adding “let’s see how he reacts when things get tough”.

Spain have scored nine goals and conceded one, while Germany have one more in each column.

Germany and Spain are the most successful teams in the tournament’s history with three European titles each.
