Man lands in jail for throwing communities into darkness after stealing transformer cable

A 28-year-old man, Adam Yusuff, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional facility for allegedly stealing a transformer cable.

Yusuff, who was arraigned before an Ede Magistrate’s Court, Osun State, recently, was said to have thrown three communities into darkness with his alleged act.

Osun Police Command docked the defendant and slammed him with three count-charges bordering on theft.

The defendant was said to have committed the crime in the company of others now at large on June 2, 2024 at about 10:30pm at Oke-Iresi Area in Ede.

The charge preferred against Yusuff read, “That you Adam Yusuff and others at large on the 2nd of June, 2024 at about 2230hrs at Oke-Iresi Area, Ede in the Ede Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit entering and stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 16 of the criminal code cap 34 vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

“That you did enter into the dwelling place of one Major Adewusi Samuel (Retired) at Oke-Iresi to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 411 of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

“You did enter into the dwelling place of one Major Adewusi Samuel (Retired) at Oke-Iresi and steal Transformer’s Armor Cable valued N800,000:00k meant to service Olorunsogo Community, lludun community and Saka Salami Estate community respectively and being the properties of IBEDC of Nigeria ably represented by one Foluso Adejumo, the Technical supervisor of Ifon, Osun state and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of criminal code cap 34 Vol II Law of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.”

Yusuff pleaded not guilty to the allegations but he did not have any legal representation.

Magistrate V.O. Adedokun admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in the like sum.

But, the defendant could not meet the bail conditions and has been remanded at the Ilesa correctional facility.

The case was adjourned till July 25 for hearing.
