Transform Your Bedroom into a Summer Oasis with the Right Bed

diydaddyblog.com 2 days ago

Creating a bedroom oasis for summer starts with a bed frame that perfectly captures the airiness and lightness that make the season unique.

Some basic guidelines:

  • White and light woods are the best colours for summer bed frames.
  • Poster beds work exceptionally well with high ceilings.
  • Metal bed frames can be thinner and more ornate than wooden ones.
  • Upholstered beds can work well with bright colours or a classy headboard.
  • Decorating your bedroom in light, neutral tones will soften the space and help ensure that your bed doesn’t dominate it.

Metal bed frames

Summer bedrooms look fantastic with a classic metal bed frame with fairy tale and Victorian-style detailing.

The Time Living Inova (pictured above) is a fantastic example of a fairy tale bed frame fit for a princess with its ivory colour and feminine design. Or you can go for something more traditional like the Julian Bowen Victoria or Birlea Bronte.

An underappreciated benefit of metal bed frames is that you can drape netting through the head and footboard to match your colour scheme.

Wooden bed frames

Going down the wooden bed frame route means getting a slightly thicker bed, so the best ones are low and relatively minimal in their styling.

Something like the Nordic Mill Shake works well, or if that’s too boring, the Julian Bowen Venice brings some Art Deco vibes.

The lowest bed frame is the Shed Beds Tokyo, which raises your mattress only 500mm off the floor—perfect for beating the heat.

Four poster beds

Low four-poster beds like the Birlea Darwin make the most sense if you have high ceilings.

Drape and tie some net curtains down the sides, and you have a private summer den. Alternatively, you can keep it open for easy access.

You can also get standard-height poster beds like the Birlea Mercia. These have a less relaxed feel but offer space underneath for storage boxes.

Upholstered beds

Upholstered bed frames are bulkier than metal and wooden ones, so they go against the light and airy feel we want in a summer bedroom, but you can get around that by choosing light and pastel tones in pink, grey, and beige.

The Birlea Berlin Fabric Bed Frame is an excellent example of a low bed, while the Limelight Picasso has a more interesting headboard and tapered legs.

You can also specify built-in storage with drawers or an ottoman base. Ottoman bases use the whole mattress underside for storage—perfect for stashing your winter duvet away for summer and storing all your out-of-season clothes.

Summer vibes also need good decorating choices

Of course, your bed frame can only do so much to create a summery bedroom oasis. You also need to decorate in a way that captures the season.

Your colour scheme should complement your bed frame. A few ideas:

  • White bed frame – light grey walls or pastel tones like sunny yellow.
  • Brown bed frame – moody feature wall and neutral colours elsewhere.
  • Grey bed frame – white walls with metallic décor.
  • Pink bed frame – off-white walls and a beige feature wall.

Feature walls can bring your bed frame to life by framing the room, and you don’t always need to paint them a different colour. You can also make a feature wall with statement art, a photo gallery, or a large bookshelf.

Additional summer oasis tips include getting fresh flowers every week (get faux flowers if you can’t be bothered swapping them out), scenting your bedroom with an electronic air diffuser, and upgrading to floral bedding sets.

Follow these steps, and with the right bed frame and good decorating choices, you can easily transform your bedroom into a summer oasis.
