France coach, Didier Deschamps has backed Kylian Mbappe to discover his best form against Spain as both sides clash in the semi-final of the 2024 European Championship.

Mbappe is facing criticism for his poor performances for France in the competition. He has only scored once from the spot against Poland.

The French team have qualified for the last four of the competition despite not scoring a goal from open play in the competition so far.

Deschamps took off struggling Mbappe in the extra time of the shootout win over Portugal.

He has reminded Mbappe’s critics’ of what he has achieved at a younger age in the sport.

Deschamps said: “Don’t you think he has already made enough history, with what he has done so far?He wants to make even more history.

“We did everything we could with him, with the medical staff, to get him to be here. During the preparation, he had a little back problem, too, but Kylian is here.”

Mbappe has been forced to play with a mask after he suffered a broken nose in a collision with Kevin Danso in his team’s opening group game against Austria.

Deschamps also ruled out suggestions that Mbappe will be benched for the clash against Spain if he is not fully fit.

“Even if he’s not 100%, I know very well that for the opponent, knowing he’s playing makes them think and forces them to adapt,” he added.

France will take on Spain in the first semi-final of the competition on Tuesday night while England and Netherlands will battle it on Wednesday night.
