Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), discussed with ADEYINKA ADEDIPE about the recent fraud allegations leveled by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Governor Godwin Obaseki………. CONTINUE READING

Regarding the APC’s allegations that Governor Godwin Obaseki should face investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for corruption, what is your response?

During this election period, I urge the people of Edo State to consider the decency and integrity expected of leaders, including politicians. It is disappointing that anyone would propagate blatant falsehoods at this time.

Initially, I would prefer not to dignify such accusations with a response. However, how can the Edo State opposition claim that Governor Godwin Obaseki’s e-gov platform allows him to manipulate party losses? In the digital age, where transparency is paramount, this accusation is baseless. Our security agencies have the capability to verify any claims, and suggesting a return to archaic paper-based systems is regressive.

If the governor had any intention to conceal information, he would not have implemented e-governance, which enhances security and transparency. We recall past incidents, like the Ministry of Education fire during Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure, where paper records were compromised.

The digital platform is not only secure but also advances transparency in governance. I thank the people of Edo State for their unwavering support of the PDP and Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration for over seven and a half years.

What is your perspective on allegations that the ownership of modular refineries in the state is unclear?

These allegations stem from a lack of understanding. The APC seems deficient in research and planning, as it fails to grasp the true nature of these investments. Governor Obaseki facilitated an environment where Edo State natives could invest in projects like the Ossiomo power plant and refineries.

These investments do not involve public funds but rather encourage local entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic growth. Criticizing such initiatives undermines their positive impact on our state’s economy.

Asue Ighodalo was implicated in corruption allegations. What are your thoughts on this matter?

This issue is political in nature. Banwo and Ighodalo is a reputable Nigerian entity eligible to bid for contracts, provided they adhere to due process. The state government prioritizes value for money in project execution, and selecting a firm of their caliber is reasonable and beneficial.

Do you believe the APC’s criticism regarding the ownership of the Radisson Hotel is justified?

The APC’s tactics lack substance for their campaign. They offer no clear vision or strategy, resorting instead to unfounded accusations and distractions. The Radisson Hotel’s presence in Edo State brings numerous advantages, contributing to our economy and enhancing our state’s attractiveness.
